Birthday celebrations can become super expensive when you have kids, so my two take it in turns with parties. It works out that Ruby has a party every odd numbered year and Miller has a party on the even numbered years. Please don’t misunderstand me, we still celebrate on the years they don’t get a party, we have a whole family get together at a restaurant of their choice for a meal as well as the usual presents and decorations.
Miller’s birthday this year fell during the corona virus lock-down. It was his year to have a party and invite all his school friends. He’d been looking forward to a trampoline party at Planet Bounce with a sleep-over afterwards. Obviously this couldn’t happen, so we went all out on making it as special as possible. I attempted to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase House Party and decided to capitalize on the covid19 lock-down theme and decorate accordingly.

Halfway through decorating the window.
Do not enter… due to mess.
I purchased a personalised birthday quarantine banner from ebay, there are loads of different designs to choose from. Yellow and black balloons from amazon including the really cool transparent balloons with the confetti inside and pumped them up with helium and tied them about the room in bunches.
To top it off I ordered ‘DO NOT ENTER’ sticky tape, which was really effective, but I should warn you it left sticky residue all over the windows, it took me ages to clean it all off the PVC and glass.
We bought him funny lock-down birthday cards and cake too – surprisingly there were loads out there to choose from. We also made mocktails for the kids and called them quarantini’s, very refreshing with birthday cake.
Even though we couldn’t have a party with friends and family. We did facetime calls with Aunty and drive-by waves with Grandad and Nannie. He stayed in his pyjamas until well into the afternoon and then only changed because he knew we were going out. Cards and gifts arrived through the post from friends near and afar, it was lovely to see and unexpected. It will hopefully be a birthday he wont forget in a hurry.

Excuse the lock-down hair.
As you can see it was a big thumbs up from Miller.
