Poor Cookie! He has become so very sad being all alone since we had to separate him from his brothers. He’s become really withdrawn and he doesn’t want to come out of his hidey-hole for food or cuddles. We tried to introduce him back with the Fuzzy/Sandy duo in a neutral space (our bathroom) as recommended, but alas, it went horribly wrong. They are definitely not going to be bff’s!
I contacted the lovely adoption lady who we rescued them from and explained the situation. I was expecting her to say, “bring him on over and I’ll reintegrate him into my herd”.
No, like any well respected guinea pig fosterer she came up with a solution and that is to introduce a tiny baby boy piggy to be friends with Cookie in the hopes it will perk him up. And it just so happens she had just had an abandoned female give birth and a baby pup was available.
And so we now have another member joining our clan, meet Toffee.

Smaller than the average guinea!
Eating Greens makes you big and strong!
I now have four piggies – that cannot live together. Sandy and Fuzzy are outside in a palace of luxury, living in a mansion of space. Cookie and Toffee getting to know each other in a smallish indoor cage back in my dining room.
I really don’t know how I let this happen, that’s four tiny mouths to feed across two cages. I should take stock in a kale farm, it would be cheaper. I only hope Toffee doesn’t turn out to be a girl, babies would really top this whole guinea pig fiasco off. My one saving grace is that it seems to be helping Cookies mood, he’s rumble strutting but not attacking. The adoption lady hoped he would be able to smell the baby Toffee and go into caring daddy mode.
I’m not 100% convinced, not just yet, although I’m going to do my best to get them settled… and outside!

Next on my list of things to do – look into getting another hutch – one without the expensive price tag of the last one. The kids are ecstatic, they are coo’ing over Toffee and how cute and small he looks. They love having them both inside and within arms reach, although when they need cleaning out they have suddenly become engrossed in an educational project, homework, tidying their room, anything but actually helping with this task. I am still impressed with Ruby’s attention to detail though, she is still in charge of feeding and is doing an amazing job.
I really hope this becomes a match made in heaven, they look super cute together and I don’t want to have to separate these two. I really couldn’t go through this again and 3 hutches would take over my garden. However, only time will tell!
