The guest bathroom is a small slanted room at the back of the kitchen with no windows. It used to be the old coal shed at the back of the house with access from the garden but was knocked through and adapted into our guest WC. We haven’t touched this room since moving in, it had just been plumbed in and was painted a plain white. There’s one ceiling spotlight so the white walls help to reflect the light. It’s also one of the main rooms where the kids seem to leave the light on, the switch is on the outside near the door. It’s pretty boring as far a bathrooms go.
Our sink sprung a leak and the pop up plug snapped so we were without it’s use for about 2 months. I decided when we fixed the sink to completely finish the room. I couldn’t decide whether to use wallpaper, paint or tiles to add a bit of colour. We eventually went for a lovely glaze kingfisher blue tile.
Andy was adamant that the darker colour was a big mistake as it would make the room look smaller, so I decided to do the one wall, this was much cheaper too. I started tiling on Friday evening when Andy was working, and thought I would surprise him. I did have a jiggle of doubt half way up the wall – was I making a huge mistake going for such a dark colour.

The hardest part was cutting the tiles to fit the slanted roof, and cutting around the toilet. It would of been easier to tile before this was put in. Andy grouted them the following morning. I think he felt a little emasculated that he wasn’t there to help or do the job himself. lol!
I love that the metro tiles seem to go with the period property.
I invested in a Philips hue bulb and sensor so that the light will switch on automatically when the door opens. I know the Philips bulbs can be a little pricey, but I like to shop around and I already had the hub and system set up for the bedrooms. It works with my Amazon Alexa’s too. I recommend the Philips hue system, it really saves you money on energy. The amount of times we find this light on in the bathroom, it will be a godsend.
The finished result looks really nifty, all I need now are some matching accessories and it will be fully complete!
