Gallery wall.

The living room had started to look really shabby and after a week of frowning at Andy, he eventually asked me what was wrong and how could he make me happy!

He agreed we could finish off the living room to my liking. Mwahahaha!

It’s been a couple of years since we moved in and decorated the living room and I have been staring at a blank wall all that time. Everything felt rushed when we first moved in, and a lot of the rooms are not completely finished. I refused to fill the space until I was completely sure of what I wanted to put up. I was looking for a large print in a frame to go behind the sofa in our colour scheme that was not out of my price range.

I found one I liked at Dunelm – it was especially important to Andy that it wasn’t too feminine – the ‘Elements City Scape‘ in greys and yellows for the very cheap price of £35 was a steal. We had to travel out of town to collect from store, but it was definitely worth it.

Over the last 6 months I have been putting aside items I think would look good on the wall. Whether it’s postcards from IKEA to framed quotes from TK Maxx, anything that suited my style and would look creative around the house was purchased.

We took a trip to hobbycraft where I found 3D cardboard letters to represent the whole family – capital letters for adults, little letters for children. I painted these in greys and yellows to match my living room colour scheme.

I had also bought a wire word ‘sunshine‘ yellow sign from Bombayduck. I already had a yellow ‘hello’ in the same style. I bought two cheap frames from ikea with Perspex and not glass fronts and popped some grey card inside. I then screwed the wire signs to the perspex. I loved the effect they gave and I then had a hello sunshine for my wall.

Not on the high street’ had some lovely personalised prints too, I especially liked the family of penguins by ‘Heather Alstead Design’ as you could add personalisation, this was almost as much as the massive city print, but I framed it myself which made it a lot cheaper.

Firstly we gave the whole room a fresh lick of paint including the woodwork. Then I literally got to work. I tried so many layouts until I found one that I liked. Luckily we have a lot of floor space.

Finished Masterpiece.

I am so very happy with the result. I was a little worried that covering the wall would make the room seem smaller, but if anything it has had the opposite effect. I love the fact it’s so personal to the family and our first home. It brings a little sunshine to the indoors and I still have one frame to fill with a picture too!
