Floors for thought.

There was a black slate effect laminate flooring in the kitchen which had chipped and cracked and a standard cheap beige carpet in the living/dining room which looked a little tired and worn. Both Andy and I work for the ‘leading tile specialist’ Walls & Floors Ltd, it made perfect sense to tile the floors, and we figured that with our employee discount it wouldn’t affect our budget too much.

There was just too much choice on the website, so we visited the showroom to see what they offered in a wood effect tile, I knew thats what I wanted in the Living/Dining room. Here are a few we looked at:

I knew I wanted a wood effect tile, but the choice was really hard as it had to go with our furniture and colour scheme. The guys in the showroom were super helpful and we had made our decision within 30 mins (would of been sooner, but I like looking at all outcomes and asking loads of questions).

We asked around if anyone knew a reasonably cheap tiler that was available fairly quickly and someone from work recommended a ‘Mr. Michael Kettridge‘, who also works for Walls and Floors (although not as a tiler, surprisingly). He could fit us in and arranged to come and do the whole job over a weekend. Below are images of him tiling the Living room/Dining room.

He also did the Kitchen/Breakfast room and guest bathroom too in a smaller black wood effect tile. As you can see the kitchen step was especially tricky and has been done to a fantastic standard. The white residue on the floor is the grout, we had to wait until it was nearly dry and then remove/buff the tiles clean.

I was so pleased with the flooring in the kitchen that a week later I attempted something that I felt just jazzed up the kitchen and highlighted my new floor.

I added plinth lighting… Yay!

I bought a set of lights from Screwfix for about £20 and then removed, drilled and attached the lights to the kick boards. I already had an extension cable under the kitchen units to power the electric oven, I wired the on/off switch to the inside of one of the cupboards, so they can be easily turned on/off. It was a relatively simple job but the effect is brilliant.

I’m terrible at taking after photo’s, I always seem to forget in the excitement of a job well done. But here are some pics of the finished flooring and as you can see it goes well with the brick fireplaces and grey scheme.
